Dr. Ryan Stubblefield

No B.S., neurodiversity-affirming therapy for individuals navigating relationship issues.
In-person sessions in Berkley; Virtual anywhere in California.
Go from one too many side-eyes, slammed doors, or silent treatments…
… to real clarity about what’s working, what’s not, and whether you’re still in this for the right reasons.
I integrate psychodynamic, relational, and somatic approaches to therapy, all through a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed lens. My work is LGBTQIA+, poly, kink, and sex worker positive, creating space for all parts of you to be seen and supported.
We’ll look at your patterns (without shame), get clear on your needs, and help you decide how to move forward—with or without the relationship.
I have 8+ years helping adults speak honestly and make relationship choices they can actually live with.

“Working with Ryan during a difficult time was incredibly meaningful. His guidance helped me build stronger boundaries and navigate challenges with greater confidence. I’m truly grateful for his help, and I consider the progress I’ve made as a direct result of the work we did together.”

“What I am most grateful for during our time together was how he validated my experiences, his kindness to me when I had little to none for myself, and how he subtly challenged what I thought was good or bad for me. The work we did together changed the way I see and relate to myself (and others) – it was truly remarkable.”

Limited spots available as I keep a small case load to ensure quality.
Why spend another day …
→ Looping through the same fight without resolution
→ Unsure if you’re people-pleasing or actually in love
→ Holding it all together on the outside and falling apart inside
→ The resentment keeps stacking up
→ Feeling exhausted from doing the emotional work for both of you
→ Wondering where your needs end and your partner’s begin
→ Feeling misunderstood—or like you're speaking different emotional languages entirely
What clients discover …
-
→ Boundaries don’t ruin relationships—they reveal which ones are actually safe
-
→ You can stop fawning, fixing, or shrinking—and still be loved
-
→ Neurodivergent communication differences aren’t flaws—they’re patterns that can be understood and navigated
-
→ Substance use, whether active or in recovery, impacts your relationship–full stop
-
→ Anger isn’t dangerous when it’s understood—it’s the part of you that knows what matters
-
→ Not every fight is about what it’s about (especially if it’s about the dishes)
-
→ Emotional clarity is a skill—and it’s learnable
-
→ If you're constantly managing your partner’s mood, that’s performing, not connecting
-
→ Speak your truth instead of talking around it—and actually be heard
-
→ Some relationships need more honesty. Others need a goodbye. Therapy helps you figure out which
-
→ Misattunement isn’t the end of the relationship—but avoidance might be
-
→ You don’t have to lose yourself to keep someone
-
→ You can't move on from trauma without working through it
-
→ Insight doesn’t fix everything, but it’s the start of not repeating everything
-
→ You’re not “bad at relationships”—you just haven’t had the right support yet
-
→ No one can meet a need you haven’t named
Meet the Therapist
I’m Ryan Stubblefield, PsyD.
I work with individuals and couples who are stuck in the same patterns—shutting down, blowing up, avoiding the hard stuff, or quietly wondering if it’s time to call it. I also work with a lot of folks where neurodivergent communication differences are part of the mix.
I’m not the kind of therapist who just nods along.
I’ll help you get clear on what’s happening in your relationship, what you actually need, and whether this thing can be repaired—or if it’s time to let go.
